We’re thrilled to introduce the Galaxy Map update to Kodable Basics—a redesign focused on enhancing both the student learning experience and teacher facilitation of coding lessons. This update brings age-appropriate content, unlimited practice levels, and built-in assessments that empower students to progress at their own pace while teachers gain better insights into student learning.

What’s New?

For Students: The Galaxy Map and Mission Control now has a refreshed, intuitive look. With clearer navigation and progression, students will find it easier to explore coding concepts at just the right level of challenge, with content that evolves as they grow in their understanding.

Here’s what else is new:

  • Visual Status Bar: A new status bar allows students to easily track their progress through the game. The four levels they will encounter are Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Mastery courses.

  • Beach Cleanup Update: While Beach Cleanup is no longer part of the Galaxy Map, don’t worry—it’s still accessible!

  • Student assessments: We are making it easier than ever to track how well students are grasping coding concepts. During assessment levels, students will collect rainbow stars instead of the traditional yellow ones, giving them a fresh new way to gauge their success.

  • Free Play Mode. This feature allows students who need additional support to revisit and practice specific coding concepts at their own pace, helping them to solidify their understanding and boost their confidence

  • Portfolios and Badges: Kodable Portfolios lets students, teachers, and parents see, celebrate, and encourage continued coding success with an engaging badge reward system. Students receive badges for in-game activities including conquering coding assessments, participating in seasonal events, and more!

For Teachers:
We’ve tailored this update to make Kodable Basics an even more valuable tool for your classroom. The Galaxy Map comes with features designed to align with your teaching needs and classroom goals.

  • More Content for Younger Students: With double the number of levels focused on sequencing, Kodable Basics now offers a richer set of learning experiences throughout the school year.

  • Built-in Assessments: Get a clearer picture of how students are mastering introductory coding skills through integrated assessments.

  • Seamless Practice Levels: Students can easily practice skills as needed without additional guidance, allowing them to independently reinforce their understanding.

Why This Matters

We understand the importance of having content that meets younger learners where they are. The Galaxy Map is designed to offer age-appropriate lessons with ample opportunities for practice, while giving teachers a detailed view of student progress. The built-in assessments also mirror what’s available in Kodable Creator, making it easier to use both programs together in your curriculum.

How It Works

The new Galaxy Map encourages a gradual progression of learning:

  • Students learn coding concepts.

  • They practice those concepts through unlimited levels.

  • They master skills via assessments that provide a true gauge of their understanding.

With assessments that remove hints, teachers can feel confident in students’ true grasp of the material. And if students need extra practice, Free Play Mode is there to support them.

Ready to Get Started?

We hope the Galaxy Map will be a useful tool in supporting your students' growth in coding. Stay tuned for additional updates to your teacher dashboard to make tracking progress even easier. If you have any questions or need support, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at support@kodable.com.

Happy coding!
