Introducing Kodable Creator

Kodable Creator is the ultimate platform for kids to learn coding while exploring real-world STEM concepts! It is designed for students in 3rd-5th grade and is available for use on the web at game.kodable.com. With the guidance of their AI coding tutor, CatBot, students engage in hands-on experiences that go beyond just learning to code.

As they transition from block-based coding in Kodable Basics to written code, students also gain an understanding of game design and problem-solving, making learning both fun and meaningful.

Creator Courses

Kodable Creator offers Game Design courses as well as courses on other STEM topics. These self-guided courses are structured to be student-driven, allowing teachers to take a hands-off approach. All educators need to do is get their students started, and the learning begins!

Game Templates and Free Create

After completing the Creator Game Design courses, students can use game templates as a starting point to build and customize their very own unique games. These templates provide a framework, incorporating the skills they've learned throughout the course.

Students can also unlock Free Create, a space within the game where they can design a game with unlimited possibilities. This feature gives them full creative freedom to build something entirely unique, using all the skills they've developed along the way, making the experience truly their own. Our extensive object library features hundreds of customizable objects that students can easily program with code.

Coding Concepts

Kodable Creator celebrates the creativity of coding, affirming that there's no single "right" or "wrong" approach to programming your objects. We encourage students to experiment with the code, click "TEST IT," and explore the adjustments they feel inspired to implement. The main coding concepts within Creator include loops, functions, conditionals, and properties.

Students can go to their settings to have the option to toggle between four types of coding languages!

  • K#: Kodable’s kid-friendly coding language focusing on teaching foundational coding concepts in an easy-to-understand way. Similar to C#.

  • JavaScript: A widely-used language that makes websites interactive, handling things like buttons, animations, and dynamic content.

  • Swift: A coding language developed by Apple for creating apps for iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

  • C#: A versatile programming language used for building apps, games (especially with Unity), and software for Windows.

Who is CatBot?

After beginning a course, students receive guidance from their AI companion, CatBot, who provides step-by-step assistance. If students click the "Need Help" button CatBot will also appear to provide them with help on the current task they're on.

AI Capabilities

At the end of each course and during Free Create, a chatbox will appear on the right side of the screen where students can type or use their voice to interact with CatBot. CatBot will respond in the student's chosen language, making the experience accessible and engaging. Here are some fun and creative ways students can use the AI feature:

  • Commanding a ship to move left and right

  • Adding 50 tomatoes to the screen

  • Writing and applying code to specific objects

  • Troubleshooting and fixing coding bugs

  • And so much more!

Assigning Creator

Creator is automatically assigned on your Teacher Dashboard. You can customize which courses are available to your students by selecting a class on your dashboard and clicking the "Assignments" tab.

To toggle between Basics and Creator courses, click the "Kodable Creator" button. This allows you to manually assign or unassign courses.

Additionally, you can manage game assignments by clicking the "Settings" button and selecting "Edit game assignments." If you deselect Basics or Creator, the corresponding game will appear grayed out on your students' screens, preventing access.
